 Frederick B. Karl, Jr. ("Rick") is
an attorney with over 24 years of diverse and
high-level law practice and
business experience. He is currently a full time local
government attorney
with the County of Volusia, representing a number of County
agencies on
maters such as taxation, intergovernmental relations, intellectual
property and information technology, economic and tourist development,
public
records law and Government in the Sunshine, contract drafting and
negotiation,
mediation, and civil and administrative litigation.
Rick was formerly the Vice
President, General Counsel and member of the Board of
Directors of Medical
Manager Corporation, a NASDAQ technology company, now
part of Emdeon
Corporation. As General Counsel, he was responsible for all legal
matters relating to the company and supervised the in-house attorneys and
numerous outside law firms across the nation, representing the company on
a wide
range of legal matters, including e-commerce, intellectual property
licensing,
complex litigation, class action litigation, employment issues,
public offerings, SEC
compliance, corporate governance, mergers and
acquisitions, corporate financing,
land use development, and real estate
and corporate transactions.
Rick’s law practice experience includes solo jury
trials in state courts, and a broad
range of state and federal trial and
appellate practice, including administrative law
practice and land use
litigation. Rick has earned the highest "av" professional rating by other
attorneys and judges, as
reported by Martindale-Hubbell.
